There is not enough food in Venezuela’s stores. People panic (feel nervous and fear) and buy too much food. There will be a new system so people can’t buy too much. Stores will scan customers’ fingerprints. If the new system works very well, everyone will get an equal (the same) share (amount; part) of food. The new system might start in January. People do not know how much food they can buy.
There are many reasons for the food shortages (lack of food; when there is not enough food). Smugglers (someone who takes something illegally from one country to another) buy cheap food and resell it (sell it again) for a bigger price. The government controls food prices so food companies cannot make money. Finally, Venezuela’s currency (national money) is weak. The economy must change.
