The Bike Thief
On Adam’s birthday, he invited (to asked to come) all of his friends and family members to a party. Adam was really happy. Adam was really happy that he just could not explain it.
He couldn’t believe it that his parents bought him this present (gift), Something that he has always wanted. Something that every kid in his neighborhood (area in the city) has it. A brand new bike!!
Adam has already planned everything like where he’s going to ride it, and when he’s going to ride it. He’s definitely (certainly) not letting anyone touch it.
That night Adam was thinking about his bike. He was going to school and all of his friends would be jealous of his bike.
Lenny and James are his best friends. When he arrived to school, Adam was right about his friends being jealous. But his best friends weren’t [jealous] because they had their own bikes.
When he came home from school, Adam went outside with his bike to play with his friends. His friends came out with their bikes, too. They decided to do a race. The race started at James’s house and ended at the oak tree beside Adam’s house.
The race started, they were going pretty (very) fast, when all of a sudden Adam lost control and fell over a tree root.
His friends hurried (moved quickly) to get him and his bike home.
The bike was too heavy for Lenny, so Lenny had to ride it. But the second (soon after) Lenny had touched Adam’s bike, Adam screamed “Get off my bike!!”
Lenny was shocked by Adam’s behavior. Lenny let go off Adam’s bike.
Adam pushed Lenny away from his bike and rode away.
James and Lenny just stayed there, trying to understand what just happened.
Next day in school, Adam didn’t talk to his friends. He didn’t sit beside them in lunch time.
When school ended, he went to the bike rack for his bike, but he couldn’t find it. He couldn’t believe his eyes. He kept (continued) looking for his bike, but he couldn’t find it. He looked in the field (the area with grass) outside the school, but he couldn’t find it. Adam couldn’t believe it. He was really unhappy that he had lost his brand new bike. He didn’t even use the bike for one week.
He went home being really upset.
His parents asked him “what happened.”
Adam told them that he had lost his bike. His parents didn’t seem too surprised, but they were disappointed (unhappy because something they hoped for did not happen).
That night Adam thought about "who could have taken his bike", but he couldn’t think of anyone. The next day in school, he was walking instead of riding his bike. As he was walking, he saw Lenny and James walking on the other side of the road. Lenny and James had noticed (realized, understood) Adam, too, and they noticed that Adam wasn’t riding his bike.
Adam acted as if he hadn’t seen them and walked faster.
When he came home he started to feel bad and miss (he wanted to be with) his friends, so he decided to apologize to them. He went to Lenny’s house first.
Lenny opened the door. ”What do you want?” said Lenny.
“I’m sorry that I behaved like that to you, Adam said, “Will you forgive me?”.
“Okay I’m sorry too” said Lenny.
“Best friends?” said Adam.
“I guess so” replied back (answered) Lenny.
Then Adam went to James’s house and apologized to him.
When he came back home, he felt happy that he had made the right decision. But he still had to find his bike.
“Where have you been Adam?” asked his mom.
“Well, I went to apologize to my friends because about a week before we kind of had a fight” said Adam.
“Oh by the way I have something to show you” said his mom.
Adam followed his mom to the garage.
Adam was shocked (couldn’t believe his eyes) because right at the corner was his bike!
“What!! Where did you get that?” yelled Adam.
“I heard you guys had a fight, so I hid your bike because your bike was causing all the trouble (problem). When you had your bike you forgot about your friends. But when I took it away, you missed them and tried to be friends again” said his mom.
“I guess you’re right mom. I’m sorry that I behaved like that” Adam said.
“It’s okay. Why don’t you go outside and play with your friends” said his mom.
“Okay” replied Adam.
Adam was pretty shocked about his mom taking his bike. But " she did the right thing", he thought.
