Janie lives in Ritesville town, with her mom, Mrs. Allen. They run a rooming house in Bake Street.
Saturday morning means something for Janie— doing the laundry (washing the clothes). She hates (dislikes) doing laundry.
The laundry room is downstairs, where she and everybody in the house can use.
Last week there was an accident. One of the gusts had loaded the machine with too much clothes (put too much clothes into the machine). This made the machine stop. They had to call a mechanic to come and fix it.
Early on Saturday mornings, she takes the pillow cases off (removes the pillow cases from) all the pillows. Then she removes the sheets from the mattress, and takes the towel off the towel bar in the bathroom.
She grabs (takes) a couple of (two) dirty dish towels out of the kitchen, and looks all around (every where in) the house for anything that needs washing.
Finally (In the end), she goes downstairs, and puts the clothes into the washing machine.
Then Janie goes upstairs, and sets the electronic timer for 35 minutes. The timer reminds her (makes her remember) that the washing is done (finished), and that it is time to go back downstairs and put the clothes into the dryer for 40 minutes. Without the timer, Janie would completely forget to check her clothes (to go and see if her clothes are OK) .
Janie carried the laundry basket downstairs. She will be very happy when her laundry is done for this week. As she approaches (moves closer to) the laundry room, she hears a sound. The sound is the washer washing and dryer drying.
She takes her basket back upstairs, thinking that she has clean clothes for a week.
